I feel really dumb!  (United States)

I just don't get it. I have my ST security group in place. I log in as a user. I have my button, added to a page. I have my personal pages page. I press the button I make a page for the logged in user. I have the module config set up so that several modules are "Assigned".

I go to my newly created home page.....THEN WHAT!!!

I have this text module telling me I can to all this stuff. I can edit the text module, but nothing else. Nothing. Just a page with a text module. No way to add pages, nothing. What am I missing?

Re: I feel really dumb!  (United Kingdom)
Hello

Ok - I think you may have missed out a fundamental step (this is a tricky module to set up!). This is what should happen:

1) Admin adds ST HomePage (HP) module to any page (usually the website home page)
2) Admin clicks on Settings and sets up destination pages, available modules etc. (sounds like you have done this)
3) User clicks on button in HP module (where-ever admin put it in step 1)
4) HP modules creates a new page for them in specified destination (set in Step 2) and gives the user Admin rights to it (and takes them to it)
5) User should have 2 modules on their new page: A HTML/Text module (you mentioned) and their OWN ST HP module called Options or Control Panel (depending on version)
This module should have a button saying Toggle Control Panel which should open the scaled down User Control Panel for them to add modules etc.

Do you have the ST HP module on your user's HomePage?
Have you tried it on Smart-Thinker.com (can you add modules to your page?)

Sorry, I know it is quite a hard module to configure!

Thanks
Rodney

Re: I feel really dumb!  (United States)
I do not have a control panel placed on any user home page that is being created. Seems like it all works up to that point. Does the user need to be a member of any special groups? Does the user need to be a member of any existing groups as a prerequisite? I am testing with users in the Registered Users role.

Re: I feel really dumb!  (United Kingdom)
Hmmm - have you tried a new user? Perhaps the panel was erased from one of the pages by a user? Was it an upgrade from the previous version?

Please create and test with a brand new user - if they are logged in and can see the My HomePage button on the website home page they should be able to make their own page.

Thanks

Re: I feel really dumb!  (United States)

OK, still no luck.

Create user, make sure they are in the Registered Users group. Go to a page that has no parent with the module. Button is visible to new user. User presses button. page is created, user is redirected to their new page with Welcome module that they can edit. There is no Control module, nor is there the ability to add modules.

Any ideas?

Ok - just so we know for certain that we are talking about/expecting the same results - have you tried the demo on Smart-Thinker.com? You can delete your page and try it again to see how it should look on yours.

Have your renamed the module at all?

Do you have this on a public test server so I could have a look?
Let me know how yours compares with the demo on Smart-Thinker please.

Thanks

Re: I feel really dumb!  (United States)

Success!!

I had changed the Friendly Name of the module to HomePage from Smart-Thinker - HomePage so admins/users could easily identify it. Changing it back worked.

Thanks

Re: I feel really dumb!  (United Kingdom)
Hmmm - I was worried about that - I haven't hit that problem yet but the friendly name change came about in 3.1 I think and some of my modules rely on being able to retrieve the module details by some identifier.

Let me know if anything else is amiss please!

I'll make a note of this for the next version (and all my other modules that may use GetByFriendlyName in the code).

Thanks
